Top 10 Rock Songs

Listing the top 10 rock songs of all time takes a great deal of consideration. There are many great songs out there that fans absolutely love. It is difficult to locate two rock and roll fans who will give the same list when naming the top 10 rock songs of all time. However there are a handful of songs that numerous fans agree should be included.

Stairway to Heaven

Led Zeppelin was making music history when this song was released in 1971. Throughout that decade, Stairway to Heaven was recognized as the most requested song to be heard on the FM radio.

You Really Got Me

You Really Got Me was released in August of 1964 by the Kinks. It made it to the number one spot on the singles charts in the U.K. and was the band’s third single release. It held onto its first place position for a solid two weeks.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Nirvana was another music history making band that produced some of the most popular songs in the alternative world. The group’s song Smells Like Teen Spirit makes it among the top 10 rock songs because it breathed a significant breathe of life into the alternative rock genre.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody shows up among the top 10 rock songs for its captivating bravado and huge popularity. The song showed up on the U.K.’s singles charts for a total of nine weeks after its release. By January of 1976, over one million copies of Bohemian Rhapsody were sold.

Imagine

Imagine by John Lennon is still frequently played today. The song was first released in 1971 and was the opening track on the musician’s album by the same name.  The concept behind Imagine sends a very positive, encouraging message that has helped it become a hauntingly beautiful as well as historic rock song.

(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction

The Rolling Stones are often credited as a highly influential and genre-building band. The group released (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction in 1965. It was penned by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Upon its release, Satisfaction was viewed as an “attack on the status quo.”

Good Vibrations

The Beach Boys released Good Vibrations on October 10th, 1966. It became the band’s third number one single in the United States.  Good Vibrations hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart by December of 1966 and also made appearances on British charts.

Hotel California

The Eagle’s song Hotel California was released in February of 1977 as a single. It climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a week long run in May of the same year.

Jailhouse Rock

Jailhouse Rock is just one of the reasons that Elvis Presley was known as the King. The song maintained a number one position on the U.S. charts during the fall of 1957.

American Pie

American Pie presents a folk perspective on the top 10 rock songs list. Don McLean’s hit was released in 1971 ad enjoyed a four week run at the number one spot on the U.S. charts during 1972.
